Studio Director of the Institute of Contemporary Dance

Position Summary

The Institute of Contemporary Dance is  seeking a highly organized, proactive, and community-focused Studio Director to oversee the daily operations of our dance studio and support the continued growth of our programs. This is a full-time, in-person leadership role responsible for managing studio operations, supporting staff and families, increasing enrollment, and ensuring an exceptional experience for students across all programs.

The ideal candidate has a background in dance, is detail-oriented, an excellent communicator, and is passionate about creating a positive, professional and thriving studio environment.

Position Details

  • Position Type: Full-time exempt 

  • Salary:  $35,000 Annual 

  • Reports To: Owner and President 

  • Location: Houston, TX  at the Studio. Hours are  10-6PM ( M-T & Saturday 10-1PM)

  • Schedule: Some evening and weekend hours required for performances and in studio events

Key Responsibilities

Studio Operations

  • Monitor and oversee the day-to-day functions of the studio and facility

  • Manage studio scheduling including:

    • Class enrollments

    • Rentals

    • Private lessons

  • Ensure smooth daily studio operations and maintain a welcoming environment for students and families

  • Maintain and manage daily front desk responsibilities and task completion

Program Development & Growth

  • Develop and support programming within:

    • Young Mover Program

    • PATH Program

    • Adult Programs

  • Build and strengthen each program to maximize participation and enrollment capacity

  • Monitor program growth, enrollment trends, and overall performance using spreadsheets and reporting tools

  • Identify opportunities for program expansion and retention

Communication & Family Relations

  • Maintain daily communication with teachers, staff, and parents

  • Conduct phone calls and follow-up communication with prospective families

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for studio-related questions and concerns

  • Foster positive relationships within the studio community

Staffing & Scheduling

  • Manage weekly front desk schedules and staffing needs

  • Schedule and staff upcoming events with at least two month’s notice

  • Coordinate substitute teachers and communicate staffing changes throughout the month

  • Support teachers and staff with operational needs and scheduling coordination

Meetings & Reporting

  • Attend weekly meetings with Marlana Doyle both in person and by phone

  • Provide updates regarding enrollment, staffing, programming, and studio operations

  • Track studio metrics and growth goals

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in studio management, arts administration, dance education, or related leadership role preferred

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lead and collaborate with staff, families, and instructors

  • Comfortable managing schedules, spreadsheets, and operational systems

  • Professional, positive, and solution-oriented mindset

  • Passion for dance education and community engagement preferred

Preffered Qualifications

  • Experience working in a dance studio or performing arts environment

  • Customer service and front desk management experience

  • Event coordination and staff scheduling experience

  • Enrollment growth and program development knowledge

  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through

Work Environment Expectation

This is an active, in-person position within a fast-paced dance studio environment that requires flexibility, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills. Evening and occasional weekend availability may be required based on studio programming and events.
